Regulatory Notice: Mandatory Marine Cargo Insurance for Kenya
Kenya now requires local Marine Cargo Insurance before customs clearance.
From February 2025, all imports must be insured locally under amendments to the Marine Insurance Act and the Insurance Act. Digital MCI certificates are integrated with KRA customs systems, and clearance cannot proceed without one.

- Must be issued by an IRA-licensed Kenyan insurer
- Digitally linked to KRA / customs entries
- Required at the point of bill of lading & invoicing
